Lightweight construction and green chemistry –
innovations from Lusatia

From green chemistry to biopolymers and innovative composite materials for lightweight constructions – the chemicals industry is a driver of innovation in Lusatia. Hardly any other branch of industry is so closely interlinked with other industries, especially as a supplier of many basicaproducts..

Developments of the future

BASF, the largest chemicals company in the world, has an important site in Schwarzheide that attracts suppliers and service providers such as ProseatTradebe and STR (Bertschi). The Schwarzheide Biopolymers Processing Centre develops marketable and new biobased plastics. Other strong industrial and chemical parks such as Guben, which is home to synthetic fibre manufacturer Trevira and Megaflex foams, as well as Spremberg/Schwarze Pumpe characterise Lusatia as an industrial location. This is where the developments of the future take place.

The basis for this is provided by the universities and research institutes in Lusatia. The BTU Cottbus - Senftenberg with its Institute for Material Chemistry is representative of this.
