Booming region with excellent infrastructure

The Dahme-Spreewald district is one of Brandenburg’s largest districts, covering over 2,260 km². It spans from the south-east edge of Berlin to Lower Lusatia. Dahme-Spreewald is a booming economic region with excellent infrastructure. Major European transport routes ensure rapid connections to all growth regions across the continent.

In October 2020, a new German aviation hub will be opening: Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER).

Top in business rankings

Dahme-Spreewald is an economic powerhouse. In the past ten years, it has succeeded in achieving average employment growth of more than 1,000 additional employees subject to social insurance contributions per year.

The average annual unemployment rate is regularly below the state and national average, and has currently settled at an annual average of 3.7%, a sensational figure for a former East German state.

With a gross domestic product (GDP) of 5.5 billion euros and a GDP per worker of 72,500 euros, the district ranks among the best in Brandenburg.

Innovative environment for strong sectors

Be they traditional family companies, internationally active SMEs or new business models with fresh ideas for products and services – some 14,500 businesses in the Dahme-Spreewald district provide a balanced mix across all sectors and form a stable economic base.

Aviation and logistics play a key role in northern Dahme-Spreewald, as do the food industry and tourism in the south.

High tech is also represented here: located just a few kilometres south-east from the Berlin city limits, an up-and-coming location for high-tech production, intelligent services, research and training has been established along the Dahme river, now with more than 2,000 highly qualified employees.
