Logistics in Lusatia –
high-growing and dynamic

Logistics is one of the industries undergoing dynamic growth in Lusatia. The foundation for this is the region’s well-developed infrastructure. Lusatia’s central location in Europe with two trans-European core network corridors (CNC corridors) passing through the region, which act as the central transport routes via which nearly all European growth markets can be reached by lorry within one day, plays a key role in this context. International logistics companies make use of these advantages and have set up high-performance sites in the region.

Customised solutions

As a global logistics service provider, BLG Group has set up a logistics site at the intersection of the interregional railway network in Falkenberg/Elster, from where it offers customised transport solutions on rails.

Boasting 1,275 of its own modern double-deck carriages equipped with low-noise brake systems, BLG AutoRail ranks among the leading providers in Europe. Among other things, the company manages the automotive logistics for the VW Group. New vehicles are loaded onto the freight trains directly from the production sites in Eastern Europe, then pooled in Falkenberg and transported to the seaports.

Moreover, Lusatia has a true logistics all-rounder in the transport services provider TSS. The Spremberg-based company offers comprehensive logistics solutions and has built up a reputation in particular in the area of hazardous goods logistics.

High-performance CT terminals and access to seaports

The Reinert Logistics Group with headquarters in Lusatia, aims to rank among the top 20 companies in the German transport and logistics market by 2025. With more than 900 employees at eight sites and over 600 vehicles, the company is well on the way to achieving its goal.

In Forst, the LION Group has set up its own CT terminal, where it handles the international heavy haulage of agricultural and construction machinery of the renowned manufacturers John Deere and Caterpillar. A further CT terminal belonging to the Group is currently under construction in Kodersdorf near Görlitz.

Three times a week, the CT terminal in Elsterwerda provides shuttles to the seaports in Hamburg, Bremen and Bremerhaven.

The industrial port in Mühlberg on the banks of the river Elbe complements the logistics services in Lusatia and offers inland waterway transport of bulk cargoes, conventional general cargo as well as heavy-lift and project cargo. The Danish wind turbine group Vestas ships its rotor blades from here.

Clusters and networks

Its proximity to Germany’s capital makes Lusatia the ideal location for interregional logistics clusters with Berlin, above all the LogistikNetz Berlin-Brandenburg (LNBB) (Logistics Network Berlin-Brandenburg). In addition, the region also benefits from the Netzwerk Logistik Mitteldeutschland (Logistics Network Central Germany).
